Drought Relief
Drought severity varies, but the national and global impact can be felt long after the event happens.
According to Drought.gov, a sustained drought can affect crops and livestock—leading to reduced production, property damage, livestock sell-off, and loss of jobs.
In 2012, a severe drought in the U.S. affected 80% of agricultural land in the country—leaving more than two-thirds of the country to be declared a disaster area. It could happen again, and the cascading series of effects will require a sustained response.
As droughts become more common across the country, demand for relief grows too.
AEF has identified the following nonprofits working to bring relief to those communities affected by droughts.
